Where do you look for design inspiration?
My travels. I love experiencing the artistry and the architecture of new places, and incorporating elements of other cultures into my designs. I’d have to say that the place that most inspires me is Barcelona. There’s such a large gathering of creative and artistic people there, and such a great opportunity to experience diverse types of art. I also happen to love the work of Antoni Gaudi – the noted Spanish architect. His designs have such movement and creativity.

What current design trends do you enjoy?
I’m excited about the revival of modern design. People are becoming more open to using modern design elements in their homes. I’m particularly excited about the reemergence of color! I feel as though, in a design sense, we have been through many years of bland, boring color. It’s nice to see bold, fresh colors appearing everywhere again.

Do you have a favorite room when it comes to interior design?
I love designing kitchens. I think kitchens offer a great opportunity to explore functionality and space planning – two things I am very enthusiastic about – while still allowing for a lot of creativity. I really enjoy my kitchen at home. I love to have people over and I enjoy the process of cooking for large groups, so I particularly appreciate the entertainment aspect of kitchen design.

If you weren’t a designer, what would you be?
I would be an architect. I know that design and architecture go hand in hand, but I have always appreciated the functionality and structure of architecture. If I could do things over, I would have studied to be an architect.

What would people be surprised to know about you?
I think they would be surprised to learn that my husband Keven and I live in the upstairs of a horse barn and raise Longhorn cattle for beef. Right now, we have over a hundred head of cattle. I also enjoy cooking our beef!
