We Have A Winner! Readers’ Choice Master Bath Contest

Posted on | December 10, 2012 | No Comments

About a month ago, I mentioned the best tagline I ever came up with for a print ad. A picture of an incredible shower filled the page, and in bold letters, the ad read, “Shouldn’t the room that you spend 7 years of your life in pamper you?” I still say, “Yes!” This past month, we asked, our Readers, to cast their votes in our Readers’ Choice Master Bath Contest. Hundreds of votes later, we know from your comments that you delighted in the details and were inspired by the creativity of all our Contestants.

With entries from the mountains to the coast, the entire state was well represented. It is clear that every entry artistically mastered the language of form and function. To our Entrants, I personally applaud each of you for your creative vision. Today we present our winner and runner-up. Please stay tuned tomorrow when we highlight in detail our other notable entries.

From the month long voting, The Readers’ Choice Award for Master Baths goes to Charlotte residential designer Kevin Holdridge of KDH Residential Design. Many of those who voted for “Private View” commented on how much they liked the private landscape just beyond the glass wall of the shower. An interior designer offered accolades for the interest that the less than common granite backsplashes created around the vanities.

Of note also is our Readers’ Choice Master Bath runner-up, “Good Morning Sun,” submitted by Charlotte designer, Carolyn Hyatt of E3 Cabinets And Design. When I first saw this entry, I thought, “A nice shower to wake me up in the morning and a wonderful bath to help me unwind in the evening.” The comments of many Readers expressed those very same sentiments.

Kevin Holdridge is a residential designer who blends the finer points of the architecture with sustainable design practices. While the style of the project that KDH Residential Design undertakes may vary, the company’s commitment to context is always evident. Homes are designed to be one with their surroundings – the structure and the landscape find their perfect completion in the other.

Kevin’s design aesthetic gracefully echoes with the personalities of his clients. In this project, one of the main desires of the clients was Universal Design. Practical features are reflected in the Master Bath as well as the entire house. In addition to the curbless shower and light switches with motion sensors, KDH added to the ease of livability by ensuring that the design of the house included wider hallways, wider doorways, zero clearance thresholds and a more open floor plan.

Carolyn Hyatt proves that function and quality are always well dressed by E3 Cabinets & Design. The custom full service cabinetry and storage system company specializes in eco-friendly designs and products for all areas of the home. Through their structured process and extensive experience, Carolyn and the rest of the staff ensure that the design and implementation process is both efficient and cost effective.

The transformation of “Good Morning Sun” was dramatic – from an early 90’s space accented by traditional thermofoil cabinetry to a contemporary environment that has a clean and streamlined feel to it. Carolyn clearly understood the desire for a “less is more” contemporary designed bathroom. E3 is known for attentively listening to their clients. In this case that meant a master bath that reflected the clients’ desire to de-clutter their lives while also establishing and atmosphere of peace and serenity.
