Green – A Neutral That’s Versatile & Always in Style

Posted on | October 14, 2011 | 2 Comments

When it comes to clothing, my two favorite colors are pink and green – not together, however. I just can’t pass up a pink shirt. I have every shade and numerous styles. I even bought the same lime green sweater twice, by accident. I am the Imelda Marcos of clothing in these two colors.

My affection for these colors may be one of the reasons why, as the publisher of North Carolina Design, I have always enjoyed the work of Charlotte interior designer Anita Holland, of Anita Holland Interiors. Green is often a color that she incorporates into her designs. She recently shared her thoughts on this with me.

“As a designer, it’s true, I am very partial to the green color family. I only recently began to understand why.  It’s because I think of greens as neutrals. There are the standard neutrals – blacks, whites, grays. These all work with every color on the color wheel. There also is a green that works well with every color – whether it is the primary element or an accent in the scheme.”

Think of like ‘the little black dress’ that is always in style and very versatile. It is a color that is very easy to live with. Abundant in nature, greens require no invitation as they visually enhance any space.”

Bringing the outdoors in – sometimes to add calmness and sometimes to enliven a space. Wonderful neutrals. Thanks Anita.

Anita Holland Interiors is a full service design firm located in the Cedar Street Design Center, just outside of downtown Charlotte.
