Design – One Big Puzzle

Today’s blog post comes to us from one of our favorite Winston-Salem interior designers, June DeLugas, of June DeLugas Interiors. According to June, her ability to find the right piece for the right space may date back to her childhood.

As a little girl, our family would work puzzles and I always enjoyed finding the pieces that everyone else left out because it was too much trouble for them to fool with. I previously thought it was my grandmother and the things in her house that led me in the direction of interior design. You really never know, but I believe now that the puzzles had more to do with it. They helped me understand color and how to put the pieces together.

The way I see it, designing a house for clients has many similarities to the puzzles I worked on earlier in life. Sometimes it may take time to find the right pieces to fit perfectly in the right space – but once that discovery is made, it works well with everything around it.

Illustrating that point … There was a room that we were designing for a little girl who was about to be born. I had told the Mom that I was looking for something special to go over the bed. The room was all painted. The new bed, crib, rocker, mirror, lamps and artwork were all positioned. Along came their beautiful daughter. That one spot was the only thing that had yet to be completed. It took many more months, but, I found some wonderful architectural pieces that perfectly followed the curve of the bed. These final items were the last pieces of the puzzle, making the vision complete.

I think you’ll agree that these architectural accents have found their home over this little girl’s bed. In welcoming their third girl into the family, the Mom wanted a blue bed with some blue accents in this room. How do you like it?

The Winston-Salem interior designer has a showroom filled with home furnishings, carpet, lighting and antiques. June DeLugas Interiors was voted by readers of the Winston-Salem Journal as Best Winston-Salem Interior Designer.

I’ve seen a great many happy customers brag on June. She’s very well respected and sought after especially after one has seen her work. I’m itching for her to let loose on my home. June’s most attractive quality is that she becomes friends with her clients. Everyone wants to get to know her better.

Love this room June–just beautiful. Has your signature.
