Coastal Décor

I admit to being spoiled of late by seemingly balmy days and not-so-cold evenings. Having grown up in the South, I know that the recent weather can be quickly followed by one of our dreaded ice storms. I decided to sneak away to the beach last week and enjoy a few days of even better weather. If you are already thinking about spring (and maybe a little sun and sand), I hope you’ll enjoy a peek inside the coastal décor of my parent’s beach home.

The house is the creative vision of my mother. Certainly it has its crisp whites and vibrant colors. With the ocean as the backdrop, there is nautical-themed bedroom that my mother just completed. Most of the other rooms share the same design element–shells. One by one – literally – the shells have found their place. From living room, to dining room to bedroom to master bath – my mother envisioned the designs and has been amazingly creative with her glue gun.

Some of the shells were picked up during countless walks along the beach. Others were purchased at a local shell shop. The giant scallop shells were carefully packed and brought back from a trip to Northern Ireland. Had I been more skilled with a camera and able to deal with lighting issues, I would have photographed the 2 most beautiful pieces – the dining room chandelier and a grandfather clock. Perhaps another time.

I hope you enjoy ~ Liz
