And the winning kitchen with the most votes, is… the entry “Hanging Baskets,” by Kendra Tardif of the Charlotte interior design firm, Pheasant Hill Designs. We extend congratulations not only to Kendra for an amazing design of this space, but also to our second place finisher Eddie Casanave, of Distinctive Remodeling, who is responsible for a beautiful and spacious kitchen titled, “All Aglow.  Both the Raleigh remodeler and his Charlotte counterpart have well earned reputations for exceptional kitchen and bath updates and outstanding whole house renovations. For cooking, for entertaining, and for gathering as a family, both spaces deserve high marks for innovative detail and exceptional design.

“Hanging Baskets” has a decidedly classic feel to it. Post-contest, Kendra shared with me her client’s desire for a kitchen that was warm and bright. The previous kitchen had a small window over the sink and an absence of light. The new kitchen was able to comfortably accommodate the family’s four children.

Against the back drop of the white cabinets, I find that the combination of the gray island, the stainless steel appliances, reclaimed brick backsplash and black and white countertops perfectly create a feeling of familiarity and ease. Kendra proves that she had the ideal recipe for warm and bright. The additional cabinetry in the room is the perfect completion in terms of wine and glass storage

Raleigh remodeler Eddie Casanave also shared with me a few details about how his kitchen, “All Aglow” came to be. His clients were empty nesters and wondered if they should consider downsizing. With one of their daughters just a stone’s throw away, and a grandchild who of course needed doting, the couple decided to stay put and reinvest, to increase comfort in their later years… and so they contacted Eddie. Here is a kitchen that is truly the gathering place for three generations – and not just for the holidays.

From the coffered ceiling to the hanging lanterns to the personal items showcased in the upper cabinets, every detail in this kitchen has been carefully orchestrated. At the same time, the tile back splash perfectly complements the granite countertops, and the dark wood of the island infuses the room with warmth. This is a kitchen that sings!
