Are You Up for The Challenge

Posted on | August 17, 2011 | 4 Comments

With permission, I am reposting this August 5th entry from Traci Zeller Designs’ Blog. I enjoy being counted among the 120,000 people who follow her witty and inspiring design revelations each month. Her blog is penned, so to speak, in Charlotte, which is where she also operates her successful interior design business. For professional interior designers, design students and the creative minded lay person, Traci shares exciting centennial news from one of our state’s most notable furniture manufacturers – Hickory Chair.  Thanks Traci!

Are You Up For The Challenge?

I am … for the Centennial Design Challenge hosted by (my perennial favorite) Hickory Chair, that is!

You’ll need to visit the Hickory Chair Facebook page for all the details (plus the official rules, if you are so inclined), but the gist of it is that you submit either an original design or an interpretation of one of Hickory Chair’s existing pieces.  Winners will be chosen in three categories — student, designer (as in, professional graphic, furniture or interior), and general (as in, everyone not a student or professional designer).

Those lucky ducks (that is, the three grand prize winners) will either have their design manufactured by Hickory Chair or win $10,000 worth of custom home furnishings.  One winner will have his or her design featured in a national advertisement, and the student winner will also receive an internship with the Hickory Chair design team.  Holla!  (To be clear, I’ve never actually uttered the word “holla,” but it seems to be an appropriate expression of my enthusiasm.)

I’ve already imagined up my entry, but you’ll have to wait to see it until I get it prettily on paper.  I wish I were a better artist! Meanwhile, I’m also happily spending my imaginary winnings …  and my Silhouettes M2M English Arm Sofa in dark gray chevron looks amazing!

What you would create?  Don’t forget to enter!
